RedWillow Macclesfield
32A Park Green, Macclesfield SK11 7NA
Town centre bar run by the brewery offering a good selection of their beers across 18 taps and 4 handpumps, but they carry guests as well. It’s a large one room bar with plenty of comfortable seating and additional seating outside. Apparently it can get very noisy when busy due to the acoustics of the room.
Waters Green Tavern
96 Waters Green, Macclesfield SK11 6LH
Locals pub close to the station with a reputation for well kept cask ales, up to 8 are available. There are also 8 taps which include, unusually, 2 Bacchus fruit beers, apparently due to the landlord’s love of lambics. The interior is large and broken up with dividers to give a multi-room feel.
The Jolly Sailor
63 Sunderland Street, Macclesfield SK11 6HN
Another friendly locals pub offering a choice of 6 handpumps and 7 taps. The landlord is a big Bass fan and it always available on cask here in good condition. Typical multi-room layout with plenty of space. Very popular. The landlord told us that he is planning on leaving as he has renovated another place nearby which he run free of tie. His enthusiasm should ensure his continued success.
R&G’s Beer Vault
2 Market Place, Macclesfield SK10 1EX
Large bottle shop, formerly the Macclesfield branch of BeerDock, that offers an excellent selection of a couple of hundred packaged beers and a dozen on tap. The owners are passionate and knowledgeable about all things beer and they have also opened a sister venue in Congleton. Large space with plenty of seating inside and out.
Five Clouds Tap & Bottle
8 Market Place, Macclesfield SK10 1EX
Another great craft beer bar just a couple of doors along from R&G’s. There is good selection across the 10 taps and also a fridge of packaged beers. The main bar isn’t the largest but they also have a seating area downstairs and on the pedestrianised area at the front.
The Castle
29 Church Street, Macclesfield SK11 6LB
A very popular backstreet pub with a snug and multiple other rooms. They offer 4 cask ales in great condition as well as around 10 taps. Hugely popular it was absolutely packed on my Friday night visit, but it is exactly the sort of pub where you share a table with a stranger and fall in to friendly conversation.
Mash
5 Back Wallgate, Macclesfield SK11 6LQ
Just around the corner from the Castle is this multi level, slightly quirky, bar. Lots of stone inside which makes it feel almost subterranean. There is a very small bar area with 1 cask ale and 8 taps, mostly macro but a couple of interesting choices. Comfortable seating is available across multiple levels with many nooks and crannies.
