Beer Guide London Visits – 29/06/2024

By admin

By The Horns @ AFC Wimbledon (1 / 179)

Taproom built under the stands at the new AFC Wimbledon stadium. Large functional space that is clearly designed with match day crowds in mind. Nevertheless it still has a comfortable sports bar feeling on a quiet Saturday in the off season. 24 taps serving the usual macros alongside an extensive By The Horns selection. There are 2 handpumps but these may only be used on matchdays.

By The Horns – Sláinte – 4.7% (Draft) – £3.40 1/2 pint

Against The Grain Taproom & Cidery (2 / x)

Located in the former By The Horns premises is the only London cidery producing and selling from the same location. Taproom is as cosy as it has always been and there are 11 taps serving a mix of their own ciders and some well chosen beers. Regular music events are hosted on the small stage.

Against The Grain – Midnight Oil – 4.0% (Draft) – £3.00 1/2 pint [Cider]
Two Flints – Santiago – 3.8% (Draft) – £3.00 1/2 pint

Belleville Brewery Tap (3 / 180)

Situated in the small industrial estate adjacent to Wandsworth Common station is this split level taproom. The bar is up the stairs and offers a dozen taps of their own beers plus a packed fridge. Plenty of seating upstairs plus some downstairs and outside. Another London bar that works with Yard Sale Pizza allowing you to order food in.

Belleville – Sunlight Micro IPA – 2.8% (Draft) – £2.25 1/2 pint

Art & Craft SW16 (4 / 181)

Small bottle shop adjacent to Streatham Hill station. The space maybe small but the selection is large, with lots of quality packaged beers. They also have 4 beers available on tap. Very limited seating. They have an agreement with a local pizza place allowing you to order in.

Nothing Bound – Finn & Maya – 5.2% (Draft) – £4.30 1/2 pint

King & Co. (5 / 182)

Imposing pub now under the ownership of Portobello Brewing which maintains a good range of beers across its 18 taps and 3 handpumps. You will find Portobello beers but they don’t dominate. Lots of space indoors and an outside terrace. They also have a kitchen which when I visited was offering Japanese dishes.

Drop Project – Jeez – 5.0% (Draft) – £3.90 1/2 pint

Clapton Craft (Balham) (6 / 183)

What used to be We Brought Beer is now a branch of the excellent Clapton Craft family. Set up remains the same with 5 double fridges of packaged beers and a selection from 5 taps. Some seating inside with more on the pavement. It’s possible to order Yard Sale Pizza to be eaten in.

Two Flints – DDH Citra & Nelson – 6.0% (Draft) – £4.80 1/2 pint

Craft Tooting (7 / 184)

Small bottle bar in the Broadway Market which also serves 4 draft beers. Limited space inside with a couple of tables outside.

Liquid Mistress – Mississippi Queen – 5.3% (Draft) – £3.55 1/2 pint

We Brought Beer (Tooting) (8 / 185)

The second market arcade in Tooting is home to the last remaining branch of We Brought Beer. A large packaged selection plus 3 beers on tap. Friendly, knowledgeable staff will guide your choice.

Pentrich – The Hope That Kills – 4.5% (Draft) – £3.40 1/2 pint

Wimbledon Brewery Tap (9 / 186)

Brewery and tap room on an industrial estate 10 minutes walk from Colliers Wood station. A dozen taps serve their own beers plus guests, alongside a packaged selection. Seating on two levels, plus outside. There is a street food kitchen on site which was serving bratwurst on my visit.

Wimbledon – Indy Pils – 4.0% (Draft) – £3.00 1/2 pint

The Sultan (10 / 187)

Back street pub in Wimbledon that is the London presence of Hop Back brewery. Up to 8 of their beers available on cask and always in excellent condition at a very reasonable price. Typical large corner pub with two separate drinking areas and outside seating.

Hop Back – Crowd Pleaser – 3.4% (Cask) – £2.20 1/2 pint

The Trafalgar (11 / 188)

Well loved corner pub that recently reopened to much acclaim. There is always a fantastic selection of beers both on tap and as perfectly kept cask. It was a huge shock then to hear recently that it is once again under threat from developers. Hopefully they will win the fight and this much loved community local can continue to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

Binding-Brauerei (Radeberger Group) – Schöfferhofer Prickly Pear Cactus – 2.5% (Draft) – £2.60 1/2 pint

Hammersmith Craft Brewery Tap (12 / 189)

In a basement on the Fulham Palace Road you will find this microbrewery and associated tap room. The tap room area is small as most of the basement is occupied by the brewing setup. Expect up to 8 beers on offer, all of a consistently high standard. Note that it will be closing shortly for some remedial and renovative work, but will be back once this is completed. The brewery will continue throughout.

Hammersmith Craft – Hopilicious – 4.2% (Draft) – £7.00 pint

Craft Beer Co. (Hammersmith) (13 / 190)

Located in the shopping centre above Hammersmith tube station is the west London branch of the Craft Beer Co. The usual quality selection of beers that you would expect from them in a one room area with an “interesting” decor.

Black Lodge – South Down Baxter Street – 6.2% (Draft) – £3.30 1/3 pint
